I think it's safe to say Western people have learnt some lessons.

They went to Mexico which was not under a travel advisory at the time. However, the federal government was already clearly warning people to avoid non-essential travel when they decided to go off on that trip.

    A case for extended testing.

Chirico, 62, learned that he was infected by the virus while making a visit to Montefiore Medical Center, the Bronx, New York, hospital where he serves as a board member. The hospital had received a delivery of more than a million much-needed surgical masks, N95 masks and medical gear to help staff care for sick patients and Chirico was there to ensure quality control of the masks.

US intelligence states what we all have suspected all along, China intentionally underreported cases of the coronavirus:

Perth, Australia has managed to secure more medical supplies from China than Donald Trump was able to for the entire United States. 31 ventilators, more than a million face masks, etc on 3 China Eastern planes from Shanghai, the first of which landed in Perth this morning.

We managed to get this because we are apparently great mates with China. A Perth based mining billionaire, Andrew Forrest, has used his clout and his extensive connections throughout China to secure the supplies for Australia. Also we sent to China what we had a few months ago thinknig we wouldn't need them, turns out that was a mistake but at least we've secured our mateship
