Please excuse the slightly clickbaity title, although in essence that’s how you can justifiably interpret the original pronouncement.

Suggest reading the thread in its entirety, but I have tried to extract the most salient points. You can see how Information Services Department officials can be stressed and having to rewrite history into the early morning hours of Sunday.

Additional commentary seems to reflect memory holes and rewriting history. So that’s what you get with a Liaison Office chief with no understanding of Hong Kong. Good luck to us all.

Thanks for sharing these, you and Galileo.

A CCP coup is in progress. The local office of the... Xinhua "news agency" is named the supreme authority... chinese communist wonders never cease.

(I wonder what the next location of a truly massive demonstration might be? Is the PLA massing troops in SZ yet?)

There is no repercussion for Liaison's Office to act in flagrant violation of the rule of law. No one can judicial review what they do.

They do seen to think they are above the law (including the Basic Law).

They now have the absolute obedience of CE, CS, SforJ and the police.

The only things preventing the communists from doing a Tiananmen Square style crackdown are the (1) Stock Market / Banking system, (2) judiciary, and (3) the civil service.

If people from those three sectors start to leave en masse, then Beijing would have a problem.

Beijing is therefore constantly testing people's bottom line and pushing the envelop. It's the good old salami slicing technique they have been using for decades.

Is it just me or does it seem Beijing, the HK government and the pro-establishment camp is almost daring the US to sanction officials under the Hong Kong Human Rights Act? Is this a high risk gamble by the pro-establishment to show the Act is toothless and Washington won't act? Seems a rather poor gamble in my opinion, as the US is already denouncing the arrest of these people and US Congress members are already demanding action in response be taken:

Some disturbing indications of following a pre-written script.

It suddenly makes sense: the announced 'flash mobs' were suspect to begin with. The democracy crowd didn't take the bait, there were no flash mobs, and the pre-ordered petrol bombs could not be used because there was no rioting. And maybe the triads did screw up as well. And so the pre-written LO statement was send anyway. Don't let it go to waste.

Someone forgot to inform the higher-ups that the petrol bombs never materialized. Ouch.

Anyone here feel sorry for the comrades whose responsibility that would have been?

(and what "harassment against shops", huh...? Didn't materialize either...)

I think the media should be relentless in asking questions about this mysterious foaming at the mouth by the local CCP's self-proclaimed governor.

When's the next scheduled appearance by the CENO Carrie Lam? Cancelled?
