lol. The boxes had notes attached with the phone numbers of the research team at Lingnan University. But instead of calling the phone numbers, the police evacuated the temple, called the fire department and had EOD detonate the three boxes. Turns out the boxes are used to study air quality due to the burning of smoke at the temple.

Update: Wong Tai Sin District councilor Chan Chun-yue has a picture of what the boxes look like: https://www.facebook.com/YueWTS/phot...type=3&theater

And a fun factoid: One of the deities worshipped in that temple-turned-crime-scene is certain Duke Guan, who is venerated (and venerialized?) by both the triads and the popos alike. People who kept their eyes open during history classes may remember they were once on the opposing sides of the law.

"The police regard Duke Guan as a saint signifying loyalty, righteousness, benevolence, bravery and credibility. "

They’re making a good case for those complaining not just about their having terrible judgment in general, but being outright illiterate here.

The only positive about the HK-CCP-SAR paramilitary forces during the glorious (but hopefully very brief) dynasty of Dada The Odious Overreacher I can think of is the unintentional comedy they occasionally provide for the increasingly repressed and depressed populace.

Blowing up scientific shit (when they could simply read the instructions written on the box...) in the very temple they worship their deity of credibility in, of all possible pies-in-the-sky, and no hongkonger got injured or incarcerated in the process... that's worth more than all the bauhinia baubles piled up and set on fire.

I am a bit late in this, but if the devices were in the temple, one would assume that the temple management had authorised these devices and would have some record?

I'd think making a few phone calls would have been operational cheaper and faster than bringing in the bomb squad.

they could simply read the instructions written on the box.
To be fair .. anyone can print these stickers. But you'd think they'd investigate before blowing shit up...

Wait .. did they actually blow up the devices?

    From this RTHK article:

Officers who arrived at the scene found the boxes suspicious. About 150 people, both worshippers and staff, were evacuated from the temple.

A bomb disposal squad was called in to examine one of the boxes and found cables, a mobile phone, charger and an electrical circuit inside, and determined that it wasn't a bomb.

The temple said no one there were notified by the university about the placing of the devices, even though the compound is open to the public.

Well something seems to have blown up in their collective mugs...

Didn't Lignan Uni have some scientific devices there gathering data about smoke levels? They could have picked up something...

Did the popo catch Waldo within the temple grounds? (they wouldn't need any grounds to arrest him)
