After all, China has often called the protesters a threat to national security so it is possible. Have to wait and see.
    Shit would probably need to get really really bad for the PLA to be called in. Correct me if I am wrong, but last year there wasn't any talk of the PLA getting involved either? The troops being secretly moved in and practicing in SZ was PAP troops, no?

    You seem to be optimistic, believing that the PLA took no action in the past protests

    I expect the US will do exactly what it did last summer, use HK and Taiwan as leverage on China to get concessions. that benefit the US. Trump kept quiet on during the 2019 protests and got this trade deal squared away.

    Will be exactly the same this time around. The US will just use HK as a poker chip to get whatever they want.
    You are missing the point of the whole US involvement here. The issue between the two nations is not about trade or strictly about "interests" anymore. This is a new cold war we are in right now whether you like to admit it or not. This is a you can't have two alphas in one group type of scanerio and people in HK can only hope America comes out on top

    1️⃣The Chinese government's institutions that maintain national security can set up offices in Hong Kong as needed;
    2️⃣ Authorize the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to formulate relevant laws and incorporate them into Annex III of the Basic Law
    3️⃣ For actions that endanger national security, such as splitting China, subverting regimes, and terrorism;
    4️⃣The Chief Executive must perform the duties of maintaining national security, such as education, legally prohibiting acts that endanger national security, etc .;
    5️⃣ Oppose foreign forces to interfere in Hong Kong affairs in any form, and take countermeasures if necessary.
