Off-topic but in HK defending yourself from assault, or helping someone to defend themselves will get you arrested for fighting in a public place, which is why most will not retaliate and will just wait for the cops to show up. (Disclaimer: does not apply in a political context if you are pro-Beijing)
I understand that thinking can be a challenge for some people and thus making intelligent policy that targets higher risk activity and promotes low risk ones that are beneficial for society can appear idiotic, so yes for those myopic individuals blanket bans must be the only solution.
Maybe Aramis you can give us your expert view on essential activities so we can ban everything else.
I’ll start you off:
Smoking’s non essential and encourages social groups - ban it.
Alcohol the same and actively promotes bad risk decions- close all specialist wine stores and ban its sale in supermarkets.
Cars - non essential, ban them
Meat eating - non essential, banned.
You are the one playing expert pretending you know better and trying to second guess little details and whining like a little baby against government decisions, not me. As I said I am happy to follow the rules that are currently implemented and have absolutely no problems with them nor will I be miserable even if it lasted for months. As the old saying goes...you know where the airport is...
Given we have now had experience and know that lockdowns don't actually result in real toilet paper shortages this "should" not occur.... but when the cases rose, I saw toilet paper on special offer in the supermarket and thought to myself "I bet everyone decides to buy it again, best buy one now just in case". So it's kinda self perpetuating!
Every supermarket I have been in has loads of off shelf supplies of paper products et al. Yes, it's selling out fast but last time it caught them on the hop and you had the CNY holiday to contend with and the supply chain not energised. Supermarket buyers have plenty of stock in warehouses and seem to be getting ahead of the curve in restocking shops to a point where just trying to get round a shop is a pain, from staff restocking.
Even the small P&S at Tai Po station had half full/empty shelves of TP, but pallets of the stuff ( and hand wash and gloves and masks and rice and spam etc,) In the corners. hell I even went to pay a $1 bill at Rabbit telecom for a text ( yes I'm old school ) and got offered masks and gel they have on offer. Plenty of outlets, plenty of stuff.
