Also good news for the thousands of students still stuck abroad.

I was originally going to fly to Guangzhou with my wife from UK but due to the cost and scarcity of tickets only bought a ticket for my wife for almost 4000 pounds.

Just read on the Flyer Talk forums that this is outbound only Mainland ---> HK -----> ROW and inbound to mainland via HK is still banned.

Yes. This is the case. I suspect it is to get a bunch of students out from China to their overseas Uni/School destinations?

    Reuters had this:

Hong Kong International Airport said on Thursday that passengers from mainland China would be able to transit through Hong Kong to other destinations from Aug. 15 until Oct. 15, in a boost for its dominant carrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (0293.HK).

Transit in the other direction, inbound to mainland China, will remain banned at a time when China’s aviation regulator has severely limited the number of international flights due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus.
