When it comes time to scan the LHS app somewhere, does it require the phone to have an active connection?

My eyes are playing tricks on me. I read Bumer Phone. Damn click bait.

Will check Octopus Card records to trace venues.
New thread "buying cash MTR tickets"...
Because also from Aaron:
And...Hospital Authority's Dr Sarah Ho: Cases in HKICC will only be discharged after serving 14 days of isolation. Currently there are 35 of the 90 active COVID-19 cases (85 plus today's 5 cases) under 14 days isolation after clearing the virus.
All because...Case #12379, 15/F tested negative throughout quarantine at Empire Hotel. Tested positive on Day 26 test, Ct 27-29. Next test was Ct 27. Tested positive for antibodies. All family members who also went through 21 days hotel quarantine have now been sent to Penny's Bay.Fucked up sums it up...Likely re-positive case
So this poor 15 year old will have done something like 21 days quarantine + few days hospital stay + 14 days isolation... It is one way to solve the housing crisis...
There should be no surprises for anyone, we've all know for a long time now how fucked up they are here.
But to reiterate the octopus scenario, you can take your current octopus to the MTR at anytime and hand it back, get all the money refunded and get a new one.
Every octopus I've ever had has been anonymous (until the recent $5000 give away). My main 'everyday octopus' is still anonymous. So If I test positive they'll be able to tell when I was in Sheung wan MTR and when I exited, but if someone else tests positive, they're not gonna know I was sitting across from them on the train.
So back to burners.
My latest update on iPhone gives me these options to control LHS.
Are we confident that if I leave cellular data off that no info will be sent to the govt until I connect to wifi?
My current strategy (as I still don't have a burner) has been to:
Download the app on my way to the venue.
Go into airplane mode (so both data for the app and for my phone generally, is switched off).
Scan the QR on arrival.
Go inside, and then immediately delete the app again.
(my visits to venues that are strict about viewing the download are currently pretty infrequent), but still naturally using a burner would be easier.
And I've just had a another thought, can we simply screen shot a picture of the app showing that it has been scanned and then show that picture to the gatekeepers?
I've only used the LHS app twice now in tota,l so have never taken the time to look at what is recorded, but it seems that even the strict gatekeepers only take a cursory glance to see that there is some kind of green screen with a tick displayed, I'd imagine that a saved photo of the screen from each of the venues visited regularly would be sufficient in 95% of cases?
Thoughts?
