TikTok deal approved by Trump. In hindsight, this seem less about national security than a shakedown by Trump to tailor a deal for Trump-friendly business (in this case Oracle), the actual majority ownership remains with Bytedance (even if Trump tries to say it is US owned because of US investors in Bytedance). In any case, if Beijing had wanted access to private info of TikTok users, they would have gained access long ago:

And no surprise.. the shakedown continues to stumble along.

But ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok, threw cold water on that structure on Sunday, disputing both Oracle’s and Mr. Trump’s characterization of the deal. ByteDance said it would hold a majority share of the new company until it went public within the next year. Oracle said on Monday that as soon as the new company, TikTok Global, was created, ByteDance would lose its ownership stake in the service.

Asked during a television appearance on “Fox & Friends” on Monday about the potential that ByteDance would still own 80 percent of the service, Mr. Trump said that the Chinese firm would “have nothing to do with it, and if they do, we just won’t make the deal.”
No one seems to have a clue about what has been agreed upon, should be agreed upon or will be agreed upon. Or if they do, this is the most cunning game of 3D chess we've seen ...

Or Tiktok is run by the CPC in which case it proves that big bad government is able to innovate and produce thechnology which is more successful than any other app produced by the private market.

Some strange conflicts of ideology going on here.

The power of the state can be extremely effective but surely the plethora of private companies with world reaching apps seems to suggest private v public argument for innovation isn't one you are honestly trying to win.

Not being run by the CCP and handing over all data to the CCP and doing their bidding, because the alternative would be getting send to a concentration camp, aren't mutually exclusive.

Chinese apps should be banned out of principle until China allows equal access to foreign websites and apps in China.

    The headline ...

TikTok has filed a petition in a US Court of Appeals calling for a review of actions by the Trump administration’s Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFUIS). The reason, according for the company, is that it hasn’t heard from the committee in weeks about an imminent deadline for parent company ByteDance to sell off US assets over national security concerns.
