There are rumours regarding the entity name being an issue ("AmCham" belonging only to AmCham in Beijing in the view of the CN authorities) and the entity type (foreign-invested enterprise vs non-profit enterprise). If that's the case, AmCham Shanghai (which is supposedly the oldest and largest Chapter in China) or AmCham Southern China could be next.

The Chengdu chamber is not affiliated with the American Chamber of Commerce in China, a business advocacy group based in Beijing with offices in several other cities.
The closure of the chamber comes just over one year after China closed the US consulate in Chengdu, in retaliation for China’s ouster from its consulate in Houston, Texas, a week earlier.

If even mild expression of concern is now unacceptable, then multinationals in HK and China may have to reconsider the suitability of having business there.Original Post Deleted
