The Standard now reporting that the US is considering controls. Sounds like we might have a lot of hassle getting around for the next few months but I think it is probably worth it just for the amusement of the logic contortions the leadership is going to have to trot out as they bluster against it.

Top dollar for 3 weeks in a hotel that has needed renovating since the 70s sounds about right. 3 nutritious twinkies per day included in the room rate and a trip to guantanamo if you step outside. You know, just for the sake of prudence.

Anyway China international travel was practically shut off for almost 3 years, no harm in keeping it that way for 3 more months and see how it goes from there..
Nah it’s complete bollocks. No idea about India, but Japan go-slow is just rubbish. Utterly pointless and just pissing people off, damaging the economy and literally zero point whatsoever. Defending policies like this is idiocy of the highest order.

No idea about Japan but for India, even leaving politics aside, with 1.x billion population and public health care as it is on one hand and another country with 1.x billion population opening the floodgate at random time with zero checks and balances, zero reliable information sharing on the other hand, it makes more practical sense to err on the side of caution..

So there’s no community transmission in India? And you think keeping the doors shut to China will keep any new variants out?

Where the fuck have you been for the last three years? Avoiding watching the news as variants make their merry way around the world with no regard for borders - open or closed?

Naah!! it will once again awaken local sleeping system and make it more vigilant, buy more time to prepare and be ready for logistics and potentially reduce few travellers.. India has currently kickstarted covid drills across hospitals, cities, states and it will take time to reignite the whole system.. For once, no harm in taking off hard-core science glasses and putting on normal glasses to see practical and logisctical challenges on the ground from top to bottom let alone billion carefree people who have almost forgotten covid and live with devli may care attitude..

And nobody is claiming or even expecting current measures would keep new variants out of borders, the one who was claiming has learnt it hard way already..

The world is living with covid and has to continue doing so, not regressing to the lockdowns and travel restrictions we had before vaccines.

    Kishida is a moron.
India did the same and they included travellers from Japan too for good measure.

    China getting cute ..

India and Japan would require a negative Covid test for travellers from mainland China, with those testing positive in Japan having to undergo a week in quarantine. Tokyo also plans to limit airlines flights to China.

When asked about the extra travel requirements imposed by Japan and India, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry said on Tuesday “Covid measures should be scientific, moderate and should not affect the normal flow of individuals.”
