In a free country, the general population decide what is appropriate vs a suppressed country is the army and police backed in-charge that tells you what is OK or not.

Is a kimono military related? We don’t ban anything German in Europe because of the war.

No but there is a lot of history related to comfort women ..

Having said that .. there are also reports like this. No clue what these Chinese women have to wear.

Sex trafficking victims in the country are from all ethnic groups in China and foreigners. Chinese citizens, primarily women and girls, have been sex trafficked to the various provinces of China, as well as other countries in Asia and different continents. They have been detected in overseas Chinese expatriate communities.[3][2] Chinese prostitutes are trafficked overseas, especially in places where there is demand from Chinese male laborers and construction workers.[4] China's internal migrant population, in the hundreds of millions, is particularly vulnerable to sex trafficking.[5] Sex trafficked victims are abducted[6] or deceived and forced into prostitution, marriages,[7] and or pregnancies.[2] They are threatened,[8][9] physically and psychologically harmed.[10][11][12][13] They contract sexually transmitted diseases from rapes, abuse and starvation are common. Some women and girls die from the poor conditions in captivity[14] or are tortured[15][16] or murdered.[17][18]

I get that there are hurt feelings, the Japanese committed many war crimes as did the Nazi’s. But the war is a long time ago. I get glorification of Japanese military related to the war period is offensive, but banning anything Japanese seems weird. I mean, can you open a Japanese restaurant in the main land? Anyway, at some point you need to move on.

A taxi driver in Hangzhou wanted to kick me out of his taxi because he thought I was Japanese. (I am white, Anglo-Saxon, round blue eyes).
