TikTok - Shutdown v/s Domicile in US

First time I'm seeing TikTok / ByteDance mention that they'd rather shut down (assuming all legal options fail) v/s move to a US owned / operated environment.

TikTok owner ByteDance would prefer to shut down its loss-making app rather than sell it if the Chinese company exhausts all legal options to fight legislation to ban the platform from app stores in the U.S., four sources said.
TikTok accounts for a small share of ByteDance's total revenues and daily active users, so the parent would rather have the app shut down in the U.S. in a worst case scenario than sell it to a potential American buyer, they said.
(On this note, had someone rave about ByteDance's simultaneous translation app / service that they use in a professional setting. No clue what it is and where it can be tested, assuming it is available outside China. I did not get a chance to ask.)

in short, US companies, FB, Google, Apple, Amazon, etc. will remain free to continue collecting personal data, sell that to data brokers, which is available for anyone to purchase.

And they should be allowed to do that to Chinese citizens too. Cannot ban US apps in China and expect to get free access to the US data..

All the national security and privacy issues are BS. Simple reciprocity applies...

Trump wanted to ban Tiktok and Wechat when he was president. If the US ban WeChat, then we are talking

Why China / Hong Kong not allow Tiktok? We know why Hong Kong does not allow Tiktok. Let's level the playing field and government set up rules and regulation for these social media companies to follow or regulate it like alcohol / tobacco, must be 21 years of age to us.

You do realize why these US apps are not allowed in China ? They dont want to comply with Chinese laws.

US is bannjng Tiktok not because they dont comply with Us laws but because of racist xenophobia

Because they have a lical version called Douyin that complies with Chinese laws. Tiktok is really made for a global audience with no need to comply with chinese laws but rather the lawsnof other countries. Simple but people just dont prefer a simple explanation but rather be conspiracy theorists

If the US adopted the same laws would the Chinese apps get approved?

    Simple reciprocity.
