We are living in the best time it's ever been in the human history, be it standard of living, life expectancy, science and technology...

    *****************************************

Unfortunately, with all these science and technology, human is destroying this planet earth and our outter atmosphere at the much faster pace than anytime in the past. Yes, our living standard has improved tremendously in the past 100 years but we're paying the ultimate price for it.

Sounds great... we're a parasite which is killing our host, and you'd like us to get the job done more quickly?

Ultimate price - please ellaborate. If you are referring to environment, actually the true impact has been heavily debated. I am not completely convinced we know enough today to draw any significantly lasting conclusion. The power of nature is far greater than any human doing. You may be worried about global warming, some others meanwhile predict the coming of another ice age. Not that we shouldn't pay attention to the environment, but to not do anything simply because we are worried about the unknowns? I surely am glad so many others have not been such regressives so that we can enjoy today the benefits of their hard work (such as the computer you are using right now).
