Because a discount can be subsidized by the government. A price increase by a privatised company like the MTR corporation, not so much.

Its funny how companies like the MTR can be considered "privatised" when it has a shareholder who owns more than 75% stake in it, in this case the government of HK.

Or maybe they should just start paying workers for overtime in HK and the rush hour might end up as a longer window as people are actually *asked* leave the office *on time* when they've got no work to do instead of sitting there on facebook pretending to be hardworking (because they stayed so late doing nothing!) and avoiding being the first to leave.

In the 80's, there was REALLY a premium to travel in the MTR in the rush hours because the load was over the safety limit at that time.

Not all companies pay OT, depends on the company you work for and the role you have with them.

OT pay is definitely not compulsory in HK. It is in many other countries.

Haha, pay for OT is one thing. The problem with socialist Europe is paying for people to sit in the pub/ betting shop all day!

Name one. I've worked in many countries and never received any overtime (at least not since I was stacking shelves in a warehouse as a holiday job when I was 16).
