and then the idiot officer calls and speaks in cantonese..

sorry but thats just stupid - its accepted that not every one speaks cantonese..

Its true there is some racism in HK - it just sometimes works in peoples favour..

so upsetting and seems like a harsh economic punishment..

( i wouldnt be pleased about loosing 1-2K on 2 pointless aeroplane meals )

and where's the so called chinese respect for family BS... - i mean 60 y/0 may not have the sharpest mind in a strange situation...

they always love bossing around easy targets.

outraged! bet they wouldnt do that to my gramps!

HK Immigration officers mostly racially biased? Please. ALL immigration officers are racially biased. Unfair? Cruel? Of course. Don't try to pretend as if HK Immigration is really any worse then others. The fact is they are not. In fact they are better then most immigration officers I've experienced.

Now you go and re-read what I've said.
So instead of acknowledging that you didn't read her post properly and went into a rant, you just carry on with the attack?

Yes, and I'm saying the treatment that retired seamen received is no different to what he would have received elewhere in the West.

ALL Immigration Officers are SOBs. HK Immigration happens to be better then most, but they will still racially profiled you, that's the nature of the business. If they think your race makes you more liable to over-stay, they will not let you enter HK. They don't say this openingly of course, but everyone knows the "deal".

Sigh...why do people here always think I am steamed up when I am not?

I don't know, maybe my quick retort is miscontrue as a angry retaliation?

If I am pissed, I will have a look on my face, which I don't have in any of my posts here.

    Anyway, sorry for any misunderstandings.

Watercooler, I think you approached this the wrong way.

Aava stated that her opinion was that Filipinos are subjected the racial discrimination by HK Immigration officers.

You then made a comparison with America and middle easterns.

These two statements are not interlinked. Your statement does not rebut her statement in any way. If anything, it shows how narrow minded all nations are when it comes to people of different ethnic origin.
