No timetable set for Mainland cars to enter HK
February 07, 2012
There is no concrete timetable for allowing Mainland private cars to apply for ad hoc quotas to enter Hong Kong, the Transport & Housing Bureau has reiterated.
In response to media enquiries on arrangements for a cross-boundary private cars ad hoc quota trial scheme, the bureau said today the detailed arrangements must be further discussed by experts from Hong Kong and Guangdong.
The first phase of the trial to be launched in March this year would allow only owners of qualified Hong Kong private cars with five seats or less to apply to enter Guangdong Province from Hong Kong for a short-term stay.
The relevant arrangements and implementation details would be announced as soon as possible.
The bureau would carefully consider the capacity of the control points and road networks of both sides, and the air quality, when deciding on the quotas.
It will also ensure the traffic, road safety and environment will not be adversely affected.
