Comments pre-loaded with anti-NZ anti-Aus comments with many stating Chinese milk powder is the best.

The article states milk powder products have different thresholds for quality to baby formula. A non story but given space in the SCMP.

The SCMP have found a new writer

China once provided Western liberals with a model of a less stratified society fostering rational policies for the public benefit

For centuries, China’s threat to the myth of Western superiority has made it an easy target for race-baiting. Now, its embrace of green energy once again threatens American face, not to mention petro-profits.

It does seem a rather romantic view. China has doubled its coal burning power plants in the last 10 years.

Liberals do not condone violence against Chinese people, but they may accept as fact the same dehumanising myths
    used to justify racist bullying
: Chinese people have a collectivist mentality; are blindly obedient, and so on
    .

To me, freedom is individually driven, the ability to pursue whatever you want. I realised that I had internalised an Americanised definition of freedom, and I was surprised at our guide’s differing Chinese perspective. He told me he “feels truly free”, through a collective ideal for “societal unity and harmony”. He explained he was taught in primary school that his actions reflected the national flag, and therefore they should benefit the greater good.
All these confused/confusing perspectives arising from 1) giving value to complexity for its own sake (primarily academics and commentators) 2) the misplaced sense that there is some sort of equivalence (where the state does not allow, or punishes you when you voice your own [true] views)

What do we in HK care about this, versus actual accountability on local issues. Is this the South China Mouthpiece Post?

And today, the SCMP announces that the price goes up to $14 for each (news) paper on and after 1st July 2020.

    SO: Include me out !

I recall, 40+ years ago when it was a mere $1 a throw!

I've has a subscription - organised by my SWMBO without my knowledge for the last year.

I MUST make sure that the "renewal letter" is "lost" - that neo-Commie rag ain't worth my time perusing it!

Surely this must be a joke, wasn't it under $10 not so long ago? I had a look at the paper version for the first time in a while a week or so ago and Alex Lo was on page 2. There's no way that it's worth $14...
