At least (I hope), the HKPF gives you access to water.

Their cup of tea? That article is dated 2009. You make it seem that this sort of behavior is prevalent. Highly doubt it. HKPF compares very favorably to other big city forces (e.g. NYC, New Orleans, Rio, etc).

Precisely. To be fair to the HKPF, they really are not as brutal in terms of riot control as their American counter-parts.

Back to Mongkok riot, given the worsening political climate, what are the chances of another riot in this city before the year is finished?

To be fair to HKPF, they are pretty brutal compared to e.g. their Danish and Finnish counter-parts, so I guess it depends on who you compare them with.

Also, is it really fair to compare them to the US police? Having never lived in the US so not talking of experience, but I always got the impression that US society in general is more violent than HK society. In terms of level of violence, I would argue that HK is closer to many northern european countries(e.g. above mentioned Denmark and Finland), so why not compare the HK police with their counterparts in those countries instead of picking what probably is the most violent advanced country there is.

But, would it not be perhaps the most fair to compare them to another ethnically chinese society, e.g. Taiwan?
