You really don't like facts do you? This was explained to you just a couple of posts ago.

Not that I am defending abusive employers of helpers. The only shock for me is the low figure not giving 24 hours off, I would have guessed it at 99%

It is sad but not surpirsing.

Now for the salary Open Casket .....we would need to see how this "survey" was conducted.

the MINIMUM Salary now is 4210 (not 4110) and a year before it was 4110 and a year before that 4010 but for helpers whose contract started with 4010 the employer was not required to up the salary to 4110 when the law kicked in....so...

Granted many employers could give the 100hkd more but they are not required to so while they are paid less than the minimum listed NOW, they are not paid less than the minimum at the time they signed their contract.

Anyway I dont find anything shocking in all of this. It's been like that for 30 years, if you wanted to do somehting about it, something would have been done long ago, else we can keep posting about in on EXPAT FORUMS were most helpers are probably treated way above the average....

When you fight a battle, it's important you fight it against the right people - I've tried to explain to you this multiple times but seems you still come back with the same old arguments.

The issue are not the expats per se (some are probably) (a minority of the population as you point it out most of the time) but the gvt and the local population (not all, some) - go TALK TO THEM.

But I have a hard time believing the majority of the population is OK with the widespread abuses, so I am going to go off the asumption they are uninformed.
Why dont you go an inform them, instead of constatnly fighting about this on here.

I have a helper, she is paid above the minimum, gets about a month off a year (back twice to the Ph this year plus some etra days each time we are out of town), get her sundays off, get two bonuses a year (CNY and her Bday), has her own room and bathroom, we give her adiditonnal pocket money to buy snacks she likes on week day, get to bring our son to playgroup and socialise with other helpers, I give all my races tee shirts (that I never wear) to her elder son etc etc. so I don't feel I really need YOUR advice on how I should employ my helper.

On the other hand I know many people who could need it, but probably not many on Geoexpat.

what fact do you speak of? There is no proof that the underpayment is a result of anything but that, underpayment. I have no reason to believe the survey was not accurate. The dollar figure of 4100 or whatever was merely listed as a reference.

But sure, let's assume the study was faulty or misguided for no reason...
