    SCMP: Rebranding China Abroad

South China Morning Post: Rebranding China Abroad - SPIEGEL ONLINE
Its largest market is now the United States, which is home to every third reader. Only one out of five readers is located in Hong Kong. SCMP still isn't profitable, but it doesn't have to be either given that Alibaba has also bought something else for the paper: time.
...that's why Beijing is now pumping billions into a state-steered media apparatus that is supposed to spin the story of China's miracle to foreign audiences.

they certainly have a lot of wu mao support, not hard to spot what is controversial as suddenly theres hundreds of comments on an article drowning out any discourse

SCMP.com seems to be run by Singaporeans. Any negative comment about Singapore and they disable your account within minutes.

more like their local consulate complaining to the editor

Also, whenever the Nepalese born editor posts some kak about his recent overseas visits, or shit stirring 'Gweilo' article any comment as to his ethnicity gets immediately removed

In banana republics during a coup the first thing the army does is to take over the press, TV, radio and media
Ever wonder why HK Free Press was given such a hard time, banned from Govt briefings etc
So China, oops, Jack Ma owns SCMP,(notice how many Mainland journalists they have now) Laisee sent into early retirement HK Standard /sing Tao owned by a CCPPCCC member and tobacco barron
Hard to complain about things if they control the press

One of my buddies recently posted in response to a Cathay piece by Danny Lee. He questioned Danny about some Cathay pilots including an Airbus Training Manager who were using their position at Cathay to plug their restaurants while on the job, post sensitive flight and aircraft info etc on facebook. I miss the SCMP of the early 90's
