Carrie Lam - Sinner of Thousand Years

I genuinely wonder how Carrie Lam feels like now.

A million people go into the streets, 1st July is only coming up and she will be forever seen as the one who sold out Hong Kong.

A bit like the Vichy regime collaborators, she will likely live with that guilt for the rest of her life - and even more sorry for her family who get dragged into that reputation without any of their making.

There might be a reason why a highly hierarchical society came up with the enduring concept of face.

The ability to feel guilt is associated with various other higher emotions that not all humans are able to experience. An alternative treatment is the proven method of self-criticism, but that can only be prescribed by those in higher office.

The usually Pro-Authoritarian Alice Wu isn't impressed that Carrie Lam's minister ridicules housewives for having an opinion on the extradition bill.

    Obviously Ms Lam.......

Doubled down and did what had to be done.

    housewives are politically irrelevant
This is true though, anyone who isn't part of the election committee or a functional constituency is politically irrelevant. That's why Carrie et al can safely ignore the protests and go ahead with the extradition bill. They don't work for any of us.

Or alternatively she will receive a nice pay off and future comfy positions and her family will lead a very nice live travelling the world in style. The world is not always fair.

Yes, they have also used lawfare to knobble the legislative branch of government meaning all the public are irrelevant.

i am 100% sure this will happen and they will probably be more clever than with Donald this time around to give her what is 'due'. I believe though that regardless of how nice she will be treated, she will not be able to shake off that guilty feeling.

She's a Catholic isn't she? If the religious groups are correct that any Christian missionaries who have traveled in China are up for grabs if the law goes through, she will certainly have a lot to carry on her conscience.
