    Stanley Ho - Passes away @ 98...

Saw an alert a few hours ago on AAStocks about his family being called into HK Sanitarium and now SCMP reports...

Stanley Ho Hung-sun, the patriarch of Asia’s largest casino empire for half a century and a man whose very name is synonymous with Macau’s rise to overtake Las Vegas as the world’s gambling capital, has died. He was 98.

He is survived by 16 of the 17 children he had with four women. Ho referred to the mothers of his children as his wives, three of whom also survive him. One of Asia’s richest men for decades, Ho’s personal fortune was estimated at HK$50 billion (US$6.4 billion) when he retired in 2018 just months before his 97th birthday.

@Elefant&Castle - they've had plenty of time! Even with the rumors that spread this morning....

RIP Stanley, 2 runs short of your ton, but it was certainly a swashbuckling innings!

RIP Stanley, just two runs shy of your ton, but it was swashbuckling innings that anyone would have been proud of. Certainly knew how to use your bat, pal!
I am simply pointing to the likely scenario. It's a fact he has a large family with complicated relationships between them. It's also a fact he is a proud traditional polygamist. That's not a value judgement for or against Ho, I am simply stating facts.

If I was going to do an obituary, I can say Ho is part of an illustrious Eurasian Hong Kong family. His grandfather Ho Fook worked as a compradore at Jardine. His grand-uncle is Robert Hotung, a noted businessman, was said to be the richest man in HK at the time. His cousin was the late George Ho, the founder of Commercial Radio Hong Kong. One of Stanley's daughters is Josie Ho, a HK singer and actress.

Stanley for many years was the godfather of the Macau casino scene. He earned his fortune by securing an exclusive monopoly for casino operation in the city in the 1960's, a monopoly that was only revoked in 2002. It is also important to point out the darker or negative side of Ho. He is said to be a member of a triad group, or at least had close dealings with them, because that's what you do as a casion magnate. His Hotel Lisboa was increasingly rundown towards its later years before the end of the monopoly. The hotel lobby also became an infamous location for escorts and hookers to ply their trade. His monopoly also retarded development of the casino scene in the city. Those are all facts that can't be brushed aside, for better or worse.

Let the fighting over all the cash begin. The last wife Angela is akin to Daenerys Targaryen so maybe a note to HBO and get a script in for a 21st Century GoT fillmed in Macao? If Pansy thinks she is Queen Bee ( as said on this thread before ) my money is safe at the Macao bookie I am placing this bet with and Stanley's wake could be another red wedding. Angela is going to take the loaf and leave the crumbs.

Reality is the companies had been run by other people for some time. I presume he stopped being involved day to day sometime ago. So while the news is sad, probably won't affect the markets much.
