    Responsible Poodle Breeder?

My wife and kids (8 and 10 year old girls) are interested in getting a toy poodle. They are interested in a red/brown puppy toy poodle.

My wife and her sister has been doing the research but neither of them post on here so I thought I should get your comments or experiences. They have made an appointment to meet tomorrow with a breeder in the Tuen Muen (sp?) area.

So far, she told me that the breeder is recommending that we get a 'puppy' that is about 5 months as it would be easier to take care of and most of the early health issues will be taken care of. It does make sense but the skeptical side of me has me thinking that she is saying this because she has one that is already that old and my guess is that it is harder for her to sell older 'puppies'. Your thoughts?

Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

i would NEVER, EVER, EVER buy from a hk breeder. they are notorious for bad breeding practices... just as i would NEVER, EVER, EVER buy an animal from a hk pet shop.

    Tanae and klebestift like this.

There's plenty of toy poodles at HKDR.
Don't get them from a breeder

Breeding animals for human entertainment is never responsible.

I did a search and I found one on the HKDR website. I sent them a message so I am waiting to hear back from them. Did you find any other red/brown toy poodle?

There's been a few that they've taken on, And they get them in quite often so just be patient and complete an adopters questionnaire in the meantime to save time later.

That's good to hear. Hopefully we will hear back soon from HKDR and make a visit there this weekend to get the process rolling.

My all time favourite dog is the English Bulldog but they are not a very easy breed to keep. We will also need to do an allergy test with the potential breed since my younger daughter is allergic to some breeds.

    Thanks for your tip!

Hong Kong is a terrible climate for the EBD. Too hot and too humid. The flat-faced dogs (brachycephalic) don't do well in the extreme heat. And the folds in the EBD's loose skin plus the humidity is a recipe for chronic skin conditions.

Thanks huja. Agreed. The allergy testing that I mentioned is to confirm that the poodle will not be an issue or if we consider any other 'non' allergenic breeds.

Poodles are great dogs. I used to own one. But please please do not be so selfish stupid and closed minded as to buy from a breeder. Go to hkdr and save someone. Not only will you be saving an existing beautiful life but you will also be helping to put an end to the breeding business in Hk.
