Thank you for your response. I have been acting like an anxious soon to be mother, making sure everything is just right for her new baby. I have asked every question imaginable. I feel bad for the woman who has been answering all of my emails at HKDR, every time I send one I think of a new question.

Don't feel bad for asking questions...it's your right to be cautious when seeking a pet for the long haul. Sally and the volunteers at HKDR are wonderful and will take the time to help/answer any questions you may have. I've fostered dogs from there and my pup now was adopted from them as well, and they've always been extremely forthcoming with the health/temperament of their dogs.

After all, it doesn't benefit them to adopt dogs just for the sake of it...the interview process is a mutual one! Good on ya for considering adoption

Thank you, that does make me feel better. Sally seems like a wonderful person, so informative and honest. I'm just so excited! Sunday is too far away!

Great organization (as are some others, Lamma Animal Protection, etc.). They are very honest about the dogs and will give you as much background about the dog and its personality as they have. Many of the mixed breed dogs are taken in as puppies and well socialized at the kennels, Sally's place or with foster families. Some of the older dogs and some of the purebreeds have more varied backgrounds - some are abandoned at the government kennels, some with abuse, some not, some with some behavior problems (generally mild, but there are some dogs that need experienced owners) while others are complete angels, some are surrendered directly to HKDR and we have a little more history about them. HKDR definitely won't give just any dog to anyone. There are some that we know don't fit well with other dogs, or children and others that need a lot of exercise, etc. HKDR informs potential adoptors about these kinds of needs and issues. Some people will chose to foster a particular dog before making the long term commitment, just to make sure it fits into their home and lifestyle. Thanks for looking for your new family member at HKDR!

Ps. If a HKDR dog has a medical condition, HKDR gets it taken care of - they don't wait for someone to adopt the dog to do it. Also, if we know a dog is unwell, we try to place it into foster care for recovery. If we know a dog has a longer term heath condition or may in the future we absolutely tell potential adopters about it.

Thank you. I am very excited about adopting a dog. I am not very familiar with Hong Kong yet, so I need to ask these questions--especially since it involves another living being's life. I appreciate all of the feedback I have been getting. It's making me even more excited to get this adoption rolling.

    Take care.

So happy you are going with HKDR rather than buying- I know at least 25 dogs who have come from there- including mine- and every single one is happy and healthy. Wish you lots of happiness with the new addition

we get A LOT of dog rescue dogs come to us. NONE were sick when adopted out. a few have some behavioural issues (as would you if you had been abandoned!)

congrats! I'm sure you will fall in love!
