    Bringing my dog to HK?

    Hi all,

I would like to bring my dog with me to HK. He's originally from Canada and I brought him with me to Shanghai. Now, I'm moving to HK and would like to bring him to HK as well.

Is there any quarantine when bringing a dog into HK? I heard dogs might be able to be brought into HK without quarantine if it's from Canada as opposed to China. If that's true, perhaps I should bring my dog back to Canada with me first and then bring him into HK?

Does anyone know of any good pet moving services?

Hope to hear from someone soon,

    Thanks,

    Chris

yes, there is a quarantine for animals coming from china. canada will likely have similar restrictions.

best thing to do is to contact GEORGE @ INTERNATIONAL PET TRAVEL. he loves dogs and knows his stuff.

I did a search of International Pet Travel and a few different sites popped up.

Yes, in total agreement with carang. Contact Geroge at [email protected]. Tel: (852) 3428 2162, website; International Pet Travel - About IPT.

Not sure about length of quarantine from Canada, but from China it is 4 mths. yu can visit everyday, there are dog walking areas, plus if you prefer to feed your dog a certain food, then you can provide the animal quarantine with such.

I don't think simply traveling through Canada would help. If I remember right from when we brought our dogs to HK, part of the import paperwork requires a vet to certify that the animal has been residing in the same place for a certain amount of time, six or twelve months I think. If it hasn't, restrictions on import and quarantine requirements from wherever the animal was last still apply. If you have someone in Canada who can keep the dog for that time then you would be able to move dog from Canada to HK without a quarantine, assuming all the other import requirements are met. The HK AFCD web site has all the details and permit forms. They're not very long and reading them will give you a petty good idea of the process. There are also posts on this site that detail the import procedure from China and countries without quarantine requirements if you do a search.

    Thanks everyone.
I emailed George and awaiting his reply.
I'll also check out the HK AFCD web site in the meantime.

Hopefully there will be a way to avoid any quarantine.
