When you mentioned forum standing, I have had suspicion it's a bit more than ego. Or somehow it goes hand in hand.

    A couple of things.

If geoexpat members are all guys, do you think the guys here will feel that need to defend themselves so much?

I couldn't assess what's happening on the female side of the equation. But every once in awhile, there are some very subtle 'hunting'.

If someone is obsessed with reputation online, then there must be some benefits they perceive they will eventually gain in real life. Least to a rational person that should be the case.
Compared to North American forum where it's much less aggressive (other than racial issue where it's much more aggressive than here), Hong Kong is small in size, so people in geoexpat are either more connected or at least have that chance to 'network' in the future. So anything they say now, may in fact have some sort of an effect in real life.

If not then I have a hard time assessing why the big difference between this forum and the rest that I used to go to.

    hello_there

those are the ones that i can think of off the top of my head... but i really don't know what gender has to do with it...

and, yes, there are most definitely benefits of a good online reputation.

    I have a case?

I can't speak for anyone else but I'm surprised to have been described as a 'ringleader'. Not really sure what that means in this context to be honest.

I do know some and have met other forum members but certainly not most.

I come here because I don't go to dinner parties or the pub any more. This forum serves the same function, an informal gathering where we can have arguments that won't lead to blows, we can have a go at playing devil's advocate, I enjoy doing that sometimes, especially when winning the argument is pretty hopeless, it's called thinking and gets the old brain working a bit....

It's nice to come here and let off steam as well.

To be honest, I am shocked at how many people take it personally. Take the American thing, I'm going to come right out now and tell you, I don't give a shit about Americans, one way or another! The people I'm having banter with know the score......I actually had a PM from someone the other day crying because he is an upset American!!

It's a forum on the interet. Get the f&ck over it people.

You can't see it because you're not male. It's got little to do with individual female. But if guys perceives there are female (it could even be someone who hasn't posted), then they can't let go of being humiliated or be seen as weak.

You're put on the stage in this thread so if I don't make disclaimer, you'll automatically be thought of first after they read my post. I have no prior knowledge about breeds so it makes sense I don't get involved. But reading shenwen's comment made me want to extend on his/her perspective irrespective of the topic at hand.

As I said, we should get rid of that like system, it would avoid lots of issues I am sure. mind u I have close to 2000 so would be one of the most 'affected' if Shri decided to change this but I have seen way too many times people liking others post just to score points against another poster. 4 years old mentality but that's facts.

As for Bryant we all know he likes to play the big, tough guy from the NT who is slowly changing into a bourgeois, no big deal here, he is one of the few who doesn't take it personally and who can admit when he is wrong. There are way more sneaker posters on here.

As for the ladies I think most are fine, Moving gets over excited now and then about GC and Carang is full on about education but they are usually very fine. Hello there was a good source of knowledge and its a pity she left. SS and SMTT are usually polite and nice as posters.

frankly I find geo to be rather civilized and the posters to be usually of good quality. There are always exception of course and some still use insults every now and then but that's alright.

I get it when idiots log on and ask daft questions, but this sounded like the person went through a bit of a bad time and needed a little bit of advice. but then bryant comes on here instead of socialising in real like so can't be too surprised.
