Dogs are one of the most touchy subjects in this site

I did read that original thread and I thought it should have been closed too. A couple weeks ago there was another dog thread that alarmed me. There are a few people here that care very deeply for their dogs and other dogs, obviously, and are unable to write rationally or empatheticly on the subject. I realize as Mat and Joe suggest there may be a more widespread problems with tenor here, but dogs seem to be a major taboo subject. I actually knew where your thread was headed before anyone responded because of the previous thread.

It amazes me that Amy has started a new thread titling "to all you haters"...so her guilty conscience has kicked in then?

Some people do give up on commitments way too easily these days, it is just so sad. I am sure it's not impossible to find a flat which is pet friendly if you really want to.

You won't be joining us at the Geoexpat party in Tai Hang then?

Seriously, "haters" is such an adolescent term. If you post something on a public forum, guess what, the public are going to comment. Get used to it.

Some people don't read throughly either. We are keeping our dog, thank you very much. If most of you folks had any idea of the roller coaster ride our family has been on this week, you would slow down on your degrading and hurtful comments.

By the way, I have a very thick skin, so I can take it as well as dish it out.

To those of you that have been supportive and have sent PMs, thank you so much!

I'd glad you decided to keep your dog. We gave away our cat to move overseas (left it with our parents) and while it was sad it was not the end of the world because we knew he had a good home. A dog would have been harder. A pet should be for life but sometimes life interferes. A balance is needed. I think your mistake was posting on the forum to be honest - dogs are an extremely emotive subject on here and many people do equate them with their kids. It was 100% obvious you would get a good proportion of those kinds of responses. I saw the original thread and refrained from commenting because I held both positive and negative views and decided i had nothing useful to add! I have a facebook friend who only seems to post photos of abandoned dogs and anti-meat-eating photos on her facebook page and while I like the cute photos the message can get wearing after a while! On the other hand, I do agree that pets are too easily abandoned in HK so can understand why some take it so seriously.

Anyway, glad to hear it all worked out in the end. These decisions are never easy.
