Response to "All You Haters" Thread

Since your "All You haters" thread was already closed I wanted to respond. I was one of the people who responded to your thread and sorry you took it negatively. If you wanted people to understand perhaps you could have elaborated a bit further as to why you were seeking a new home for your dog. When dog lovers like myself hear a person say they are moving to a new apartment that won't accept pets I don't find that acceptable. There are thousands of flats in Hong Kong that accept pets. If someone posted that, God forbid, they were terminally ill and wanted to find a home for their dog or their children have severe allergies to a dog that is understandable and reasonable. The response from people would have been more positive.

When I had to go to the hospital for two months last year for heart surgery my biggest concern was having a friend take care of my dog and I made sure that happened. Back in 2010 when I had to travel around the U.S. for work I could have stayed at fancier hotels but decided to forgo that luxury in order to take my dog with me. As a pet owner our primary responsibility is to take care of our pets at all costs. If I was broke and had to live on the street my dog would have been with me. Unfortunately she passed away at the age of 14 from a brain tumor, last month.

One poster on this thread mentioned another dog thread about two weeks ago. That was the thread that involved a couple who decided to leave HK and move to Singapore or some other place. They left their two beautiful, healthy, Siberian huskies to be euthanized all because they were too lazy to take them along. I'm an animal lover but do not consider myself to be irrational. If you decide to post something of this nature in the future, please elaborate a bit further and you will avoid what you interpreted as "negativity".

In my opinion if you make the decision to own a pet it is your responsibility to keep it in a good environment.Personally I don't think it is a problem if that environment involves living with you or not. So I think it is OK to attempt to find a new home for your dog, provided you don't just abandon it.

Brooklyn, surely if you lived on the streets taking your dog with you wouldn't be the best option for the dog?

Another thing I don't understand is why dogs are so more divisive than other animals? Another poster said she left her cat with family, but would have found it harder to do so with a dog . I wonder why? Is it because dogs look cute and are perceived to show emotion in a way that is closer to humans?

Here's a fact... pigs are more intelligent, loyal and emotional than dogs.

Now I'm off for a bacon sandwich ;-)

I'm reading this (I have been looking at the forum from time to time) and all I can think is - the point was made and thread closed, the OP came back to defend and again some couldn't resist putting the boot in. That thread was closed and lo and behold, see above. Why can't people just learn to back off sometimes?

"Well, we'd have to be talkin' about one charming motherf***ing pig. I mean, he'd have to be ten times more charming than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?"

Nope, not back yet, still got a month to go. In a bungalow resort at Otres Beach near Sihanoukville, 200km south of Phnom Penh. It's LOVELY! (and very cheap!).

None of the posters she attacked had a chance to respond. My response is an explanation of why I reacted the way I did and not an attack on the OP. Somethings are not worth leaving alone and need follow-up.
