    Question Carpets

We have been looking at some oriental carpets in some of the shops along Wyndham St in Central and frankly have no idea of what we are really looking at and no idea what is a good price. There are so many sales on at the moment but I am one of those people with a natural distrust for “Sale” prices unless I know what the going rate should be. (I have seen shops having “Closing Down” sales for years)

Anyone out there can help me? What is a good price for this type of carpet? Any recommended shops?

    Kevin/

    Kevin,

Try the various sales that happen at the Convention center. The prices are negotiable...

By the way, we've seen pretty decently priced rugs at the China Arts and Craft in Star house. Ok they're not authentic persian stuff... but then are you qualified to tell the difference between the two? If the answer is no, then go for the chinese knockoffs.

    Just a suggestion..

    carpet shop

    www.carpetbuyer.com.
I haven't used them but they seem to have a good selection of carpets from different countries and the prices are good too.

    Oriental car-pets

I strongly suggest you first decide the size you want.

Assuming you'd go for small - medium types, I can recommend two most popular choices: CFA has a good list of "feline" models. I prefer the low maintenance "short-hair" variety though - simply brush clean once a week, or shampoo if too dirty.

If budget is a constraint, you can consider Fanciers, for a good "pre-loved" piece for free ! (you may have to pay for shipping).

The other kind is more hardy - though I wouldn't say they could take a beating. These are mainly from Tibet. They're easy to maintain.. however humidity in HK may be a worrying factor.

Finally, a word of advice - no matter which car-pet you choose, take good care of them .. though I know this looks cute, play safe - donot leave your windows open ! buy good accesories including crates,
pamper your car-pet well.. and you will both enjoy luxurious living.
