In the three days that my dog stayed there she repeatedly referred to him as female, which I wouldn't have minded except when asked a question about administering medicine she seemed to get angry and then gave me a very condescending explanation of what to do. This disgruntled me somewhat, as despite her many qualifications and vast experience, she was unable to ascertain that a dog with a pair of balls swinging between its legs is probably a male! To be fair though, she was on night shifts and looked like she hadn't slept for days so maybe she was having a bad week. Still, I feel my attitude was respectful and that I hadn't really provoked such a response.

Other than that, the place is quite expensive, I will probably try Acorn next time to compare. And as pets seem to cost more than humans to fix, I would highly recommend getting insurance!
You might to want to try Animal Medical Centre in Mosque Street, midlevels as I always found them helpful and knowledgeable when we lived in the mid levels. I have heard mixed reviews also about Acorn vets as also about many vet clinics here in HK. You just need to find one that suits your dog and you, as in offering the information and care needed.

Re insurance, we insured our kitty with Manulife. However, the policy required that the pet be less than eight years of age upon initial application.

    Who did you go through?

Our contact is Oscar at Manulife. I'm about to follow up on a claim I made before CNY, unless my husband has not said anything about a rebate.

Personally, my cynical self is beginning too think that all this pet insurance, or insurance full stop, is a scam. Yes, I read all fine print with magnifying glass.

We moved from Sai Kung to Tai Po recently with our German Shephard. He has been through many vets and test in the past. We were recommended to go to Tai Po Vet Clinic (Hei Yuen St) and the vet was very patient and explained the whole condition. It has been 4 months now without relapse after his treatment. I would recommend him

Is that the exotic animal hospital or linked to? I have heard very good things about them before and was wondering. We take our kitty to Wan Chai SPCA if any serious problem and the care is fantastic, we have found to be; and my husband and I will always support them, but since we live out sticks, another option is worthwhile just in case. Hours of service?

I've had a terrible experience at Happy Vets at Tai Hang. The first two visits was fine, I thought the vets were kind and thorough but on my third visit with my dog, he had caught a cold and cut his front paw. The vet advised me to take him to get fixed meanwhile asking the surgeon to sew the wound his paw. However, during all this, neither the vet nor the nurse had helped me clean the wound, and upon leaving, when one of the shoes fell off, I asked for help but the nurse told us to go home and just wash the wound!!

Second part is, I know I should have realized but i didn't, that because my dog is on medication (antibiotics for the wound) he cannot undergo surgery. Thankfully the vets at SPCA weren't in a hurry to have my dog desexed. I dont' know what I would do if they did and he got sick

Hi folks, does anyone have any experience of Macpherson Animal Clinic in Mongkok? I'm looking for a decent 24-hour monitoring clinic as my dog needs to go on a drip (pancreatitis) and Macpherson was recommended by a friend.

I actually have read to the contrary with regard to Pets Central. I've heard some glowing reviews of the Sai Kung branch, but have read a few horror stories about the Mongkok branch.

I don't think it was a 'bad day' per se, but bad service and bad attitude overall.
Becky, would love to get in contact and hear more about Pet Central.

I have used Pets Central in Mong Kok (24 hour service its near Langham place) outside normal hours, no horror stories, there is an extra cost, and I was very happy with those visits.

(update I forget to mention the Mong Kok clinic is located on the first floor, no lift, and a narrow staircase access might be a bit troublesome for big dogs)

I'm so sorry for my late reply. I haven't checked geoexpat in years... let me know if you still need more info about Pet Central.
