    Dog Sydney to HK

Hi, im from Sydney im going to HK next month, i want to take my dog with me but i gotta do some stuff with the airlines etc. you see ill be living in Jordan, a busy place, do you think my dog will be suitable living there coz if its not id rather it stay here if its happier. Shes a Shiba inu, currently 5kg (puppy) the average of full grown will be 8kg, she hasnt been neutered. my apartment is newly renovated, not a big place but not too small, my dad owns the apartment so we dont pay rent and at the upper level this guy has a dog living there. my dog isnt a nuisance, she doesnt bark..much. do you think it will be a suitable place for her to live. and do you know which reputable vets around Jordan or Yau Ma Tei. Ive only been to HK a few times before but this time im going to be living here for a while. could you give me basic guidelines of where i can take my dog and where i can not. i dont have a car in HK so i guess that might be a little fussy for travel. o and if anyone had imported there pet from Sydney or Australia to HK could you tell me the procedures, if i could ill take her on the same flight as me, do you know how much it will cost in total and what forms and procedures should be taken, Thanks..appreciate any help =)

I recently moved from Sydney to HK and used jetpets.com.au and everything worked out ok for my two cats. Sorry, can't advise you on your area's vet.

though it is possible to do it all on your own and safe a few bucks, I'd recommend using a pet moving company. There are quite a few in Sydney if you do a google or look thru yellow pages.. let your fingers do the walking... as they say... pet transport companies will provide IATA approved crates/cages, import permits, and all paperwork. Much easier, and maybe only $200AUD more expensive. It will probably cost about $1200-1500AUD per pet, including freight, but I'm not sure cos I sent a cat and dog, so it was a lot less for the second pet.

RE your dog in HK, if the little one is happy to stay inside your house in Sydney all day, it will be happy in HK. There are few places to walk your dog that is/are not footpath in Jordon, so if your liitle mate likes to run in an open park, it may be unsuitable. However, a small dog like that should be more than happy in HK.

There are a number of vets in your area, there's a specialist/referral centre in Mongkok and there's a few nice western trained vets in Mei Foo which isn't too far away. Most cabs will take your dog if you put the little fellow in a crate, which you will have after air transport anyway.

RE flights - sometimes you can organise your pet to go on the same flight as you, though they are carried as mainfest cargo, so you will have to collect from the cargo/freight terminal, or have someone collect on your behalf. do a search on this forum, there a few members who have posted some really helpful/relevent posts...

    good luck

We used Jetpets in Sydney and were thoroughly pleased with the service. They organised everything and liased with our vet in Neutral Bay (the one along Military Road).
