Shipping a dog from HK to Tokyo

Does anyone have any experience doing this? I did it from New York to HK but I may be heading to Tokyo now and need to box up my pup ones again ( : < )

Japan has one of the strictest quarantine requirements. You need to start preparations at least six months in advance.

See this link for more info

I've just finished writing a dog guide to Hong Kong which includes everything you need to know on bringing pets into and out of HK. It will be in the shops around 15 Nov but you can preorder now on woofguides.com - A guide to Hong Kong for dogs produced for you & your dog by animalsinphotos and get free shipping. All profits will go to HK animal welfare organisations.

    Holy Hell!!

Well, the NY to HK was quite crazy as well. This does seem like a step up from that but doable.

    Thanks a lot!!

If you decide to use an agent, though I know many people prefer to do it on their own, I can wholeheartedly recommend George at International Pet Travel ( [email protected] ) who recently helped me bring my cat and dog into Hong Kong.

They travelled from Tenerife, Canary Islands via London and there were several issues where Spain's documentation didn't match the Ag & Fish requirements here and neither wanted to budge. George helped me sort it out ahead of the travel date and even stepped in last-minute late at night when it transpired that CX were refusing to load the boys onto the flight in London as Ag & Fish at the airport here told them the paperwork wasn't in order, having failed to check their internal messaging systems which had in fact approved the import with the Spanish paperwork. Had it not been for George, they wouldn't have been able to 'board' their flight.

    Good luck with the move.

How about shipping a dog from HK to Mainland? Does anyone have any info on this?

The requirements for the Mainland are much less onerous and less time consuming. But I would recommend using a relocation service used to dealing with the Mainland, rather than doing it yourself, especially if you can't read / write Chinese.

Bear in mind that once you take your dog to the Mainland it will have to do quarantine before being allowed back into many countries, including Hong Kong. For HK it's 4 months. Make sure you do full research into the requirements for dogs from China entering your possible next destination before deciding to take your dog to the Mainland.

    Taking dog to Mainland China

    Hi Newbie

If you are still looking for info on taking a dog to the Mainland, I've got more details from a friend who has done it 3 times (but she intends for the dogs to stay there for the rest of their lives). I can send you the details as an email attachment if you PM me your email address.

One of her main comments is that the process is very inconsistent so you never really know what to expect!

i, too, would HIGHLY recommend George from international pet travel.
We have A LOT of dogs that come to stay with us in order to shorten the quarantine time in japan & australia.

    good luck!
