    boarding kennel

we have booked boarding kennel for our 2 dogs 3 months before christmas holiday and paid half amount for the deposit.
unfortunately less than a week before our holiday, our son is sick so our trip is postponed a week later so is boarding our dogs.

we notify the kennel immediately that we postponed a week later. the kennel manager insist we have to pay from the dates that we have book regardless that we board them a week later and if we canceled boarding our dogs we have to pay the full amount!!!

just want to know if any you dog owners had the same experience with postponed or cancellation during busy times of the year.

as someone who runs a boarding facility, i know that we do not refund for cancellations during our busiest times of the year, however we DO offer to alter the arrangements (such as you are suggesting).

i also know that most kennels do not offer this. their reason being that they have most likely turned people away (we get fully booked by October and have already turned about a dozen people away) and it is virtually impossible to fill the space with someone else.

As someone who has used Kennels. May I suggest for the owner of the Kennel to maybe while turning dogs away, take contact info of the turn aways in case of cancellations? This way to turn that impossible to fill space into slightly possible. Make yourself more money and please a dog owner and dog. Not srue if that would work but a thought.

dragonfly, why don't you try and find someone who needs a space for their dog the week you're not going to use?

we do take that information, but the problem is that while we ARE willing to alter arrangements for our clients, others are not.

if we turn someone away, then must find somewhere else for their dog. if we then have a space open up (which always happens), when we call the client, they have already booked somewhere else. that other place won't refund any money to them, so they cannot change their booking and we are back at square one.

I understand that they wont refund the deposit however they asked us to pay the full amount if we canceled.

can they force us to pay it??

How ridiculous! Unless the kennel specified payment rules (preferrably in writing) then you probably will have to pay, however if it failed to disclose all rules and regulations, then I'd STRONGLY dispute it.
