Why didn't you do a little research about how to look after them prior to purchasing? Google it.

    Try googling "red-eared slider care".

Does seem like the OP is half way to killing them or dumping them in the nearest convenient water source.
No idea why people do this with all sorts of pets. "What do you mean the dog has to be walked/cat goes to the bathroom inside/turtle has to be fed/snakes become longer/birds screech in the AM/etc...."

Care For Sliders, Cooters, and Painted Turtles - TT - Turtle Forums

I got some useful info from this site, and even read up before getting our 4 red-eared sliders from Mong Kok Pet markets last Aug, which were about 3cm long/1 year old.

One of my turtle got very lethargic during winter months, didn't move or eat for 3mths, we thought at times he might be dead but then he'll move a little again!!! We isolated him...then in March he just started eating again and as happy as Larry and growing (was told later that some get confused and go hibernating which usually happens in the wild).

Regardless another one of our sliders died overnight suddenly with no prior warning.

Anyway the basic things you will need to have or know:
    >Turtles need direct sunlight (or UVA/UVB light and heating) this helps them keep warm (28-29Cin water and 33-34C basking) and they NEED it to digest their food otherwise will rot inside.
    > They need a place to bask so you need to provide them with a docking platform they can access.
    > In addition to some turtle foods on the market which can be very handy, you can provide them with fresh vegs, but some leafy vegs should be limited or avoided (some turtle sites can provide list of those). Don't recommend the hard turtle food that dissolves cos can pollute water and you won't be able to monitor how much they're eating. Feed only once a day under sunlight or UV light. Place food direct in water (not on docking platform) cos they don't have saliva and need to eat in water to swallow.
    > Their water level be low or high (they're good swimmers) but must have docking platform so they can keep dry. The water should be oxygenated, or changed regularly.
    > Apply antifungal solution to their water weekly and they should be submerged in that for at least 1hr/wk and light clean their shell with small sea sponge if algae form on their shell. You need to clean their tank too and have a spare one or two if one breaks or one of your sliders falls ill.
    > Find a vet that is familiar in looking after sick turtles. They can have an assortment of ailments (alot of which comes from inadequate sunlight or heat) but sometimes need a vet to recommend antibiotics (for turtles), like when they have an upper respiratory infection (they will stretch out their neck and gasp for breath).

Hope this has helped a bit...and in time. =)
