    Book a flight under Cathay

Anyone knows how to book a flight for pet? What kinda documents the airline needs and when to book it?

umm, to fly in or out of HK?? from/to where?? maybe it would be easier for you to contact a pet relocation company?

do a search on these forums for pet relocations. there are a few good recommendations there. if you get an agent to do it, they do all the paperwork for you, and to be honest the cost is not hugely different when you consider the time and effort involved in DIY.

You could call Cathay Pacific - they have a 24hr call centre (although, it can take a while to get through to them).

You are going to need to do a lot of research to make sure you have the right docs. It's not just about what the airline needs but what docs are needed by the authorities at the other end. Depending on where you are going to (or coming from) if you don't satisfy the authorities your pet could end up in quarantine for several months.

If you are struggled to find out the basic info (how to book with Cathay) I think you may find it difficult to get the indepth facts, I would strongly consider using a good relocation agent.

Another consideration is when you want to fly - many airlines, Cathay included, will not fly animals during the hot summer months.

For actual flight booking details contact Cathay's cargo department. However, as others have noted, there will be quite a bit of paperwork required by both the exporting and importing country (and the airline). And if you are flying to certain countries (Aus or the UK for example) there are a number of blood tests that have to be done before departure and quarantine considerations on the import country end...if you are really unfamiliar with the regulations it is definitely worth contacting a pet relocation agency. There are a number of recommendations for those from members on this site if you do a search.

This is actually untrue. Cathay will fly animals in cargo year-round. I brought my dog in to HK several weeks ago from the US. I arranged all the paperwork on the US end and used George at International Pet Relocation for the HK side. I can't recommend them enough, they were awesome.

Or perhaps you flew in MAY - before they stop taking dogs for the summer. Airlines may also have different rules for shorter flights (but not sure). We had to wait to fly our dogs out until end of September or early October when my spouse moved out in June several years ago. No airline would take the dogs during the summer.

Do agree that George is great.

BEEIE - check with Cathay directly as to whether they will fly pets year-round. almost certain they do since George said the summer months are his busiest.

hello_there - maybe airlines have since changed the rules since it was several years ago

For the past four years, we have been traveling with our large dogs to the U.S. every summer and we fly Cathay Pacific.

Going on a one way trip to the U.S. is simple but the return trip back to H.K. w/out quarantine need a bit of planning. We'd started the vaccination and blood test in April when we plan to travel in August.

Initially, we used a pet travel agent but after we got familiarize with the procedures, we do the paper work ourselves.

FYI, when returned to H.K. with our large dog from Down Under. It was summer in the Southern Hemisphere. We chose Cathay. We never had any problem.

George's company is: International Pet Travel
