    Cheap rent in the countryside??

Hi there again crew! You people have been more than helpful. Another, daft question please. I've seen accommodation on http://www.gohome.com.hk/ for 2000-2500 HK$ in the countryside especially in Tai Po for a 400sq foot flat which has a mountian view. Is there any reason why the housing here is cheap? I know it can be away from the action, but it seems cheap nevertheless. My previous thread was about a scooter to commute to work which is on relation to this one. If I could live in the countryside and work (teach) in the action, that would be great!

If you have a comment, please join this thread... thanks

Is it possible to live in the countryside and commute...

Hi Paul, maybe I've got the wrong idea from places like this: http://www.gohome.com.hk/english/res...m=0&sizeto=400

Please forgive me as I have no idea about renting in HK!

My dream is surely to be shattered! (about living in the countyside cheapy) due to my naïvety(e). But is it possible to work in a built-up area and live in the countryside cheaply?

    Please reply

    Rocky

Lamma, Cheung Chau, Mui Wo. You wont find many places in any of these locations online but there are always flats for 450sqft around the HK$2500 mark. That is a very low budget though- wherever you want to be.

    living in the countryside

The whole of the New Territories have tons of accommodation of all sorts for around $5 to $6 a square foot at the moment, so $2500 for a 400square foot place is not really that cheap. Don't know about Tai Po, but I know that there are some nice village houses in Tuen Mun that are going for around $3500 for a standard 700square foot flat. A nice village is Nim Wan, right across the road from the HK Gold Coast, up on a hill, with beautiful seaviews if you're facing the right direction. You can get a flat there (700 sq) from $3000 upwards, depending on which floor, the exact location and the condition of the flat. Nim Wan is great for expats - a huge expat community live there and it's just across the road from the Gold Coast, so really convenient for a more western atmosphere.

Used to live in Nim Wan Village. Its really a great place to live in, cozy, great ambience, great people (you can also interact w/ the locals here). Disadvantage is that your house will be on top of a hill which is quite tiresome especially after a hard days work unless your willing to spare time to wait for a the minibus that goes there directly to Nim Wan.
