They say that you require 2 months worth of rent for deposit. Moving into a new place, do you need that, PLUS the first month's rent to get in?
That's a lot

It depends on the landlord, I had to pay 2 months deposits, plus the first month rent, but I have friend who negotiated for one month rent.
Thanks for the advice! I think I'll try my hardest to do it your friend's way
It's customary to plonk down a two-month deposit and the first month rent when you sign the tenancy agreement.Originally Posted by lowlight:

This is good to know. 3 months rent is quite a lot of money to get together, but I guess it helps to know this well in advance.
Bernard.
Bernard, don't count on it thought. There are usually some very special situations when a landlord has given out a flat at 1 months rent.

Got mine at 1-month deposit.
But it sure does help if you have a solicitor talking to the landlord.
cheers!

Were the 1 month leases done as corporate leases or individual?
Cool, thanks KnowItAll, UbeJam, it is nice to know that there may be some flexibility there, will budget for 3 months down payment anyway though...BTW any clues as to what sort of agency fees to expect (if apartment is found via an agency)?
Thanks,
Bernard.
