'Government assistance' = welfare.
What did you expect? You come onto a forum boasting about earning 2 - 3 times even average expat salaries and ask if this is sufficient (check out the thread 'expat visa holders how much do you earn' - you will see you are in a small minority of expats in terms of salary).
This forum is populated with many friendly people ready and willing to lend a hand with some wise words and advice. Ask the right question and you'll usually get a quick and friendly answer along with 1 or 2 funny wisecracks.
But in your instance, you came in whining about your high end salary (with no dependants) and were clearly looking for sympathy. If you're looking for sympathy pick up a dictionary and you'll find it between shit and syphilis. As others have opined, with such a high salary, I doubt you'll find any sympathy here.
If OTOH you have some real problem and difficulty, spill it and we might just have an advice or 2 to help you along.
Sheesh,
HC
The more you earn the more you spend. The more you spend the more you need.
Ok, maybe SOME of the responses were less than friendly but you do come across as boasting about your salary. You are not someone currently living outside of HK but actually living here right now (from what I gather from your post unless I misread it) - therefore, you should know if what you are making is adequate to get by. Seriously, why would you accept a job and move to HK without knowing the answer to this question? Did you not do any sort of research prior to arrival? This is not an attack - I just don't get why anyone would move to a new country and accept a certain salary without knowing if it was enough to live on.
That is like having the winning lottery ticket. Great salary, no dependents, low taxes (presuming you aren't a Yank), a veritable smorgasboard of fun to be found, excellent travel options.
Get a life sunshine, looks like you need one.

Well, you create a need by wanting something. So if you spend more and want more, you will find a way to justify needing the object or service of desire.
I know I've bought many things that I didn't really know that I needed until I realized how much I wanted it.
Long live commercialism.
