One possibility of OP’s doubt may be the result of the income levels and lifestyles of the folk that he has met and hanged out with since his arrival. After all he’s only been to HK for two weeks and may not have awareness of the full scale of various expat income levels here or has learned how to live within one’s means, and that may warrant some benefit of doubt for his question. I know a few expat wives who hang out with much wealthier expat tai tais complaining about not having enough spending money when going out with their “circle of friends”. If the OP hangs out with people getting significantly higher income/benefits with a much greater spending to match than what his salary can afford, it is understandable of his doubt that 91K might be inadequate/insufficient. In that case different advice would be appropriate and needed.

This I have had experience and also know of people who had the same experience, hanging out with people that we had meet and become mates with and going out on a regular basis, they earn a lot more but in order to not look cheap or like a leech, go round for round which in the end does go beyond ones earning ability, this was when I was younger and not wiser, i paid for it but enjoyed it and learned a lesson as well. LOL

To OP: as you mentioned it's not always about money. I always find the happiness you had becoz of having more money is never sustainable. When you got your bonus, how long does that happiness last for? 1 hr or 1 day? to me, it's having less effect when i grow older..
Find out the reason why you don't wanna stay or what makes you unhappy. if it's something that can't be solved unless you leave this place, then just go, leave HK. it shouldn't be such a difficult decision to stay or leave given you do not have a family, right? you have the freedom and choice to make your own life happy.

I think you've completely missed my point!!!

As for my comment 'because it's not yours' I am not implying anything other than exactly what I am stating, if you are assuming that what I'm saying means something else then you need a wake up call!

Did I mention anything about it being perfectly alright living a life of greed and excess in my posts??? No, I don't think I did so please don't assume you know how I feel!!

So that excuses rudeness does it???? Yes the clue is in the name and unfortunately if you read through the whole thread there are only a few that have actually contributed something to the discussion!

Hey Enery Girl, got your PM and your right and thanks for your support, I didnt realise that a simple query would raise such ire with the general population on this form. But your right in my industry you are measured by your income, its just that simple...and these guys just dont get that. In any case very appreciative that you even bothered to send to me a PM. I am finished with this forum. Regards

I am still wondering why most posters on here are linking 91K with Banking....

LOTS of folks in banking do not earn that....

Once again, not all ppl in banking are traders and or senior bankers....
