    Hk Move

    Hello,

Just been given a preliminary offer to move to hong kong and need some help with the following points

    Accommodation
I will not be given free accommodation but will be given an allowance to cover some of the costs - What would you think , as a estimation , i could expect to pay for a 1 bed apartment in mid levels

    Partner
My girlfriend will be joining me but is looking for a career change - is this an easy thing to do - ie teach english , work at a uk/us school

    Clubs
We are both under 28 and would want to join an expat sports club - any suggestions ?

Thanks very much for your help

    >> 1 bed apartment in mid levels

Around HK$ 7-15K depending on the building. Might even get something a bit cheaper in the SOHO area. Take a look at http://www.centanet.com and http://www.gohome.com.hk for real estate prices.

    >> expat sports club

As in a gym or football / hockey / rugby / cricket club?

Also if you play any sports - you can join any of the clubs as a playing member at a discounted rate. I think the joining fees are waived and you only pay for the monthly maintenance.

There are a number of different sportin clubs to choose from and expat clubs also that play sport.

Look at Hong Kong Cricket Club/ HK Football Club and Valley. They all have sporting teams in cricket, football, rugby, netball etc.

Where are you from, as their are expat social groups, i.e Australian Association (www.ozhongkong.com) / American Womens Association and the YWCA are probably the best 3 to look at. All provide social activities thoughtout the day, evening and weekends.

RE getting a job, your girlfiend will need to be sponsored for a job. This can prove tricky, but if she is thinking of teaching then it should be ok. Look at the classified sections of the South China Morning Post in Saturday for teaching jobs. All HK Magazine has a good section too.

Sue, would be useful if you post the URLs to other organisations... would make your post a little less self serving.

AWA: http://www.awa.org.hk - women's group, and generally has a very multinational membership.

YWCA: Again a woman's group... http://www.ywca.org.hk and it tends to be more local in nature than expatriate focused. However, its a good social group.

(By the way we've got an internal bet going on where you're going to try and slip your URL in again.... Would be nice if you actually bothered to respond to our email to you.)
