Chinese New Year - Is anything open?

Is there anything open over Chinese new year on the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday?

I hear that it almost totally closes up, like xmas in western countries.

I assume there will be taxis running etc....?

I am pretty sure lots will be open, shorter hours for lots granted. But, most open and all public transport will remain on holiday frequency.

MTR is 24 hours on the 18th. (As in from 18th 1am-6am when the MTR is normally down)

It's very different now. HK used to shut down for a few days (so you had to buy food for several days) but now many places remain open, although some shops are closed on the first day - that's Sunday this year.

Buses, MTR, taxis, etc. will be available as it on a normal public holiday.
