Question Moving to Hong Kong Working in China

My company is relocating me to Hong Kong. I will be frequently commuting to ShenZhen and would like to request any information on where would be the best area to establish my home based on location and means of transportation. I would very much appreciate any information that can be provided. My initial contract is for a two year period. I would also like to establish communication with other expats in the area. I am married an my wife will be joining me.

The most common route to Shenzhen is to take the KCR train which runs up from Hung Hom (in Kowloon) to the border. Anywhere near one of the stations on that line would be good (see http://www.kcrc.com for the rail line, http://ypmap.com for mapping, and http://www.gohome.com.hk/english/home.asp? for housing listings).

Where to locate in Hong Kong depends a lot on how your time will be spent outside of work. I chose the Prince Edward area because it is equidistant between both office locations, has easy access to the KCR and MTR, and is convenient to Tsim Sha Tsui (best harbour views) and only about 8-10 minutes via MTR to Hong Kong island. There's a fair bit of green space for a very urban area and (when it's not so hot) I enjoy walking from Fa Hui (Flower market) to Festival Walk at Kowloon Tong.

Friends have lived in Shatin, 20 minutes? closer to the border than Prince Edward. They had a house and liked that--but needed a car or taxis to manage logistics. That would not be true if you are in a high rise.

Hung Hom can be nice--but I find the transportation less convenient.

    Good luck!
