Family moving to HK from UK

    Hi,

I am looking to move to HK very soon with my family. I will have 2 kids by then (2.5 years and new born). I would like to get a feel for how much would one need to live comfortably and be able to make some saving. I am looking to get a place in Discovery Bay. For example, would HKD$80000 a month before tax be enough. Assume accommodation is going to be paid covered by an additional package. So the $80000 is purely for food, bills, schools etc. BTW, my wife won't be working. Thank you.

seriously? $80k/month for food, school, etc? yeah. i think you'll be fine. that's more than most people make INCLUDING their accomodations and is about 4X the household incomes of the majority of locals.

    Thanks for your replies.
Do people in HK really earn that little? I remember when I was a kid growing up in HK, people were already earning a few $0000's. Have people's earnings not gone up over the years? I thought England was bad.

Thanks for the warning about schools, I really need to look into that. I grew up in HK, so I don't have to send my kids to intentional school.
