On staring...yes, it's a common thing here.
Happily eating a burger one day at Triple-O with hubby one evening, kid of oh, about 12, turned around in her chair at the next table and was staring at us as we ate. I tried the stare-back approach a couple of times, escalating into stare-back-with-raised-eyebrows approach and nothing...still staring at us.
So I looked her in the eye and said in a voice loud enough for her entire table to hear.....wai, neih tai matyeh ah! Solved the problem immediately.
You indicate that you're NOT from here - but from 'the West' - yet automatically equate someone's mention of 'curves' with extra 'fatty' bits...? (when the usual connotation there is complimentary, positive, when talking 'bout looks).
And, you casually throw out certain personal specs that confirm that you're no way 'fat'... Since when are those measurements in any way close to being 'fat', anyway... (BTW, moi, close to that BMI no. too)
What's going on in that head of yours?
(Seems Dipper's guess = spot on.)
Yeah, don't take too much heed to the staring - you'll get used to it.
It's absolutely normal here (at least in my experience) if you look different. I get stared at all the time!
