    Staring at people normal?

I've been in hongkong for 2-3 weeks now and I've noticed I've been getting a lot of stares. I'm asian also, so I should blend in right? I wear normal clothes - ones I bought from here. Do honkong people have a radar that knows I'm not from here?

One time I was walking with my uncle and my uncle said that one guy nearly fell off his bike staring at me. I look normal, I'm not Caucasian (white), I'm not too tall, nothing special about me, so I'm wondering if this is the culture?

Sometimes I just stare at them back until they look away. Should I smile at them and say hi?

They probably just think you're cute? Grin and bear it.

ew, some old people stare at me...

I know western people get stares. So any other "non native" asian get stares like this?

Yeah. They stare at you coz they think you're hot. It can be quite disgusting some times especially when it involves old ugly fat men. My girl friends get stared at too. Just ignore them. No need to smile back but you can do it if you want. They probably won't have the guts to talk to you even if you smile at them.

curves? meaning a little weight? I'm not as skinny as the local. I'm 110 lbs and 5 ft 3 inches. But I'm not fat either. Some girls here need to eat! That or it's from walking too much. I think I walk 50 miles a day.

    I don't have fatty curves if that's what you're asking. =)

@JT06 - so it's not normal culture to stare. Because after my family leaves to go back to the U.S. I'll be walking solo. HK is pretty safe, right? Even for a girl to walk by herself even at night? I plan on going to malls and stuff, not clubs or bars, or shady places.

There is probably something interesting going on behind you and they are staring at that.

Or else you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe.

What else...? Do you have a remarkable resemblance to a famous local?
