    Finding an Orthodontist

My son wears braces. We are moving to Hong Kong in August 2011. Anyone heard of the trade mark 'SPEED Brackets'? Our current orthodontist said that we need to find an orthodontist who works with SPEED Brackets. The first I contacted per email didn't work with this trade mark.

Have you had a similar experience? Any advise is highly appreciated.

    SPEED Braces

    Hi again!

The name in English is 'SPEED Braces'. I visited their website and will write to them and ask if they have any customers in Hong Kong. I saw no Hong Kong addresses listed on the website.

    Still, any advise is welcome!

I'm amazed how fast some things work out if you just do it yourself. I waited for so long for our orthodontist to take action and contact the manufacturer (SPEED Braces). I also chased her. She still hasn't done it. Yesterday I did it myself - wrote an email to the manufacturer. What I received was an immediate answer including two orthodontists in Hong Kong with their contact details.

Our relocation agency has difficulties (!) to find a serviced apartment (2 bedrooms, from 13 or 15 August on, for 30 days, extension possible). Should I do it myself as well

Use the contact information provided in this link Bayley & Jackson Dental Surgeons Limited :: Hong Kong GeoExpat to get in touch with Dr Alex Ma. Our son and niece both use him for orthodontics. Not too sure about specifics, but both the kids are very happy with him.

You can get in touch with close to 100+ apartments using Serviced Apartments Hong Kong

Use the contact emails to drop them a line and request availability and rate info.

Relo agents have special commissioned deals with some apartments (which may be full) ... leading to the delay in getting something confirmed. They may not be doing general searches in the area where you're looking at moving to.

    Thanks for the information.

About serviced apartments, using commissioned deals would explain why it can be difficult to find.

In general verify and double check everything that your corporate relo agent tells you. We know several people who've been put in apartments at above market rates -- for whatever reason, as a result of trusting corporate relo agents who at the end of the day are just looking at making their commission.

HR will never question .. its not their money being burnt and they don't want to look stupid for picking the wrong relo company.

Is it typical to call if you want to make an appointment in HK? I wrote an email to one of the orthodontists and got no reply.
