    What is Kowloon Tong like?

Hey all! I'm moving to Kowloon Tong in two weeks to attend the City University of Hong Kong and I'm wondering what it is like. Does it tend to be middle class or upper class? Are there parks? How is the pollution? Anything else?

    Thanks everyone!

The residential part that I've seen is fairly upmarket. Not sure what options are there in that area for students.

Depending on your budgets, you might be better of by looking at near by areas which are within 20-30 minutes commute.

You're all set then. Pretty close to Festival Walk which has a fair number of movie theaters, supermarket(s) etc. You're also pretty close to the MTR / KCR.

It is a mostly quiet area no bars or loud karaoke seeping out of people's homes. No boy racers and an absence of road works. You are lucky to have a place (even if it is a share) for 1k/month.

If you are near Tat Che Ave which is a short walk to festival walk, its a predominantly middle to upper class white colour professional neighbourhood. Theres a 7 eleven and a couple of HK style cafes just off Tat Che Ave, about 5 minutes walk from Festival walk... Kowloon Tong was the first location that we lived, in Broadcast Drive, near RTHK.

As to the pollution question, that is something that isnt as much of a problem there compared to other parts of inner kowloon, due to the main advantage of low rise apartment complexs, 10 storey's and less. Pollution overall in Hong Kong,is rather obvious, regardless of where you live.

I will say that you do get used to it, I cant recall any ill effects yet, apart from our bay view being hindered from time to time. The last month has been extraodinarilly clear, returning back to being smoggy the last 3 days.

    Nothing to worry about really.

If you want bar action etc, Knutsford Terrace is only a short taxi ride away or a 25 minute walk from that location. Knutsford Terrace is Kowloon sides eqv to HK islands Lan Kwai Fong...

pollution? All of Hong Kong is polluted. Kowloon Tong is a lot better than some areas though. In fact decent for HK standards.

kowloon tong is the most upscale city in Kowloon / New Territories. it is mostly residential, so the environment is fairly quiet and not polluted compared to other busy cities in HK. you should be happy living there
