Noisy DB

Moved into DB thinking that it would be peaceful here and we can stay away from construction noises but that was not to be. It is worse. It has been a month since we moved in and renovation work is on full throttle so it is drilling, hammering all day. And if that is not enough, then I have noises from upstairs of things falling to the floor, furniture being moved constantly during the day, someone or the other walking or running around in the house (perhaps children) or sometimes just some sort of hammering...can't blame them...I am not even sure if I should speak to them about it..it is their house and they can do what they want....maybe they are not even aware....since they don't anyone on top of them...but at least I am aware so I eilings are so thin I suppose they cannot absorb any sound. One can shut the noise from outside like traffic by closing windows but what can you do about this? I am just counting days. Now the drilling noise seems to be coming from another direction. And I see that there is a lot of renovation work on everywhere in DB. SO those of youthinking that you can escape the construction noises by coming to DB, forget about it. I find it hard to understand how furniture can be moved about all day long...maybe kids...

There's a moral in that story, always get the top floor, then you won't hear the sound of dragging furniture from above....HK people have a bad habit of dragging furniture, our last apartment had furniture draggers above us... But no more, we are on top floor now, and its very quiet, unless I power up the Hilti hammer drill ha ha ha.

Seriously though, hope you bought in DB arukas, if everybody is busy renovating, it's a sign that the property market in your area is going great guns.

More than 2 years ago, when we were here in HK, we lived in Convention plaza apts in wan chai and then in sorrento in kowloon. I did not face this problem there. The problem is with the construction of these buildings. I can even hear neighbours flushing their loos!!Hahaha
Someone here told me in some of the buildings, you can even hear the TV and conversation!!! Thank God, that is not so in my building.
Anyway, I am renting here. So I will be looking in a more solidly constructed building next time. Coz,this really gives me a headache sometimes by the end of the day..i really have to keep reminding myself that it is only some really cute children....

That is the sad truth about the quality of the flats being constructed these days. Every flat I have lived in since 1988 has had the problems of pins dropping on the floor, mah jong and peeing into the toilet basin to name a few. All except for the one time I shared with a friend on Conduit Road, Mid-Levels. These are properties built in the 70s (I think) to high colonial standards. Renovation noise is frustrating especially if you are house-bound during the day and not in the office. We have all had to put up with it. Find an excuse to go out for a few hours when they start their day.
