How good is the quality of food in HK?

    Hi,

I'm thinking about moving to HK shortly but I'm concerned with some of the recent food scares highlighted by the media for food coming out of China.

What is the perception in HK on the quality of produce available?

Is it possible to buy food imported from places other than China?

    Thanks for your help

    Tmak

Given that China covers 20% of the world's population I don't think it gets more than its fair share of media hysteria over food.

But yes, it is perfectly possible to live in Hong Kong eating food entirely imported from the USA or Australia or the UK or wherever you perceive to be safer than China. You will, of course, have to pay a bit more for succumbing to the hysteria.

Actually, they export all the bad stuff to the countries with foot and mouth, bird flu, mad cow and drive-by-shootings- we get the good stuff sent to us.

    As per the others really.

If you're that 'scared' then just take your usual precautions as you would in your home country and wash fruit and veg properly etc and you'll be fine.
