    Health Insurance

    Hi,

I am new to this forum but this seems to be a pretty popular one. Here is my story. I am moving from the US to go to school in Hong Kong for 16 months beginning this fall. I am trying to decide whether to get health insurance. I am told that the HK public health services are quite good and come at a small fee. I think I will also have access to the school health clinic. However I would like to make sure that I am protected from any injury that would incur large medical costs. I am not employed any longer so I will not have a company supplying me with any medical coverage and I will have a student visa so I am not sure how much of the Hong Kong medical services I will be entitled to. So basically I am in the dark and am looking for any advice and/or information on the matter. I thank you in advance for your help.

    Health Insuranceless in Seattle,

    Brett

You would end up in the Govt hospitals for most complicated injuries (i.e. the ones that need emergency treatment)... nominal fee for that, just be prepared to wait.

Which UNi are you going to? If its HKU, you're in GOOD hands, as the Queen Mary Hospital (also a teaching hospital) is a hop, skip and a few jumps away.

Thanks for the response. I am going to HKUST over in Clearwater Bay. I noticed that you recommended talking to Kevin in some previous threads on this topic. Do you know if he is still around?

If your just looking for accidental cover, then you could just buy that as an addition to what the basic medical cover you can get from the government and local university clinics.
